about

A 7 track mini-album released in August 2005, Early As The Trees was Aidan Smith’s first release on Analogue Catalogue, following on from his two EPs of home recordings on Manchester label Twisted Nerve. A mixture of home and studio recordings, the title track manages to reference Harold Pinter, Noel Gallagher and Bowie’s ‘Life On Mars’ whilst showcasing Aidan’s knack for a catchy melody and skewed pop brilliance.

“A one-man band of Delia Derbyshire library rhythms, found sounds, sparrow chirps and bucolic skiffle, he's an unlikely collision of Deryck Guyler, The Penguin Cafe Orchestra and The Beta Band.”
- 4/5 Uncut, September 2005

“Wistful strumming and vaudeville piano-plinking from a man who sounds like he's surrounded by flute-playing pixies on springs. If Badly Drawn Boy swapped his beanie for a thinking cap he might have achieved this skewed brilliance.”
- 8/10 NME, August 2005

“It's this eccentricity and perverseness that draws Aidan Smith away from the more pedestrian crop of wet-behind-the-ears boys with acoustic guitars. James Blunt he isn't, but 'Early As The Trees' proves Aidan Smith is a beautiful talent out on his own.”
- Word Magazine, September 2005

about

Analogue Catalogue UK

Analogue Catalogue is a small indie label and a big studio complex formed by Julie McLarnon in 2000.

The label went to sleep in 2008 and reawoke in 2019 with the release of an award nominated single by indie riff masters Buí.

2020 will see the Analogue Catalogue records return to full power with the release of Aoife Wolf's epic debut single, more from Buí and gems from the back catalogue.
